Here I go over what I did for my Eagle Service Project

  • Project Outline -

Project Description:  I'm going to build Bluebird houses and provide informational pamphlets or electronic files so people can print off their own.  While I'm building it I'll probably put on a class and video tape myself while I'm doing it.  So that people can watch the tape and use it to build their own bird houses.  I need to find out how many houses I need, where they go, and why they need to go there.  I need to figure out who can help me in the making and who would want to watch me build them.  I need to find local businesses that would donate materials for me to build these houses.  I'm going to research the needs of the Happy Dancing Turtle's property in Pine River, MN.  Once I do that I'm going to provide plaques to put by the bluebird houses so that when people see the houses they know a little bit about what is there.

What group will benefit from the project?

My project will be a benefit to the group because:  it will benefit the bluebirds by giving them a place to stay.  It will also benefit the community by having videos that you can watch to learn how to build the houses.  Happy Dancing Turtle will have resources to teach kids and adults at the camps they hold.

Project Details (prior to starting): The area is wooded with tall pines, some little  poplar trees, some under brush and deadwood.  The houses will be built with some type of hardwood. I will try to get donations of cedar wood and screws that I need for my birdhouses. The screws I am going to get will not rust so my birdhouses can withstand the weather for years. For help I will have my local troop and some people from my community help out. I will take 4 weeks for data and about 3 weeks to get donations. I will have a day to cut my boards into bird houses. I will make a video so I can let Happy Dancing Turtle use it to educate younger kids or people that are interested in bluebirds. I will take one weekend to put my birdhouses up. I will also make plaques for people to see what I did on my project. I am also going to make a website for people to look at for information on my project.

Donations: I will go to local lumber yards and hardware stores for the materials and wood needed to build the houses.

Safety Hazards: Make sure ladders are secure to the ground. If we use power tools I will instruct and have adults help me instruct people using them. I will try to use a table saw, hammers, nails, drills, and screws to help me build and put up birdhouses.

I will try to put these up next spring.
